U.S. News & World Report’s Best Diets of 2015 named HMR Weight Management Services the second best diet in the United States. This is the first time the diet was included on the annual rankings list.
U.S. News & World Report made detailed profiles of each diet, and a panel of nationally recognized experts on diet, nutrition, obesity, food psychology, diabetes and heart disease rated the effectiveness of each diet.
HMR and 34 other diet programs were evaluated based on easiness to follow, ability to produce short and long-term weight loss, nutritional completeness, safety, and potential to prevent and manage diabetes and heart disease.
The HMR program coaches its clients weekly by combining diet, physical activity and healthy lifestyle skills. Winchester Hospital has offered the program for the past 16 years to its community members who are interested in losing weight.
Diet participants can use the program at home or in hospitals and medical centers. Research has proven that HMR clients with a body mass index of 40 or greater achieve a 47-pound average weight loss.
“The program is effective at helping our patients achieve weight loss, which can result in improvement in risk factors for the development of conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure,” said Keren Wilson, a physician for the Winchester Hospital Weight Management Program. “The weight loss may also lead to a decrease in the need for medications for some individuals who have developed these conditions.”
